PUCO to hold public hearing on rail crossing exemption in Tallmadge

COLUMBUS, OHIO (Nov. 2, 2016) – The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) will hold a local public hearing to give the public an opportunity to express their views regarding a petition, filed by the city of Tallmadge, to exempt school buses and motor vehicles transporting certain hazardous materials from the requirement to stop at a railroad crossing located at Middlebury Road in Tallmadge.

The local public hearing will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Tallmadge City Hall 545 North Avenue, Tallmadge, Ohio 44278.

Ohio law requires any bus, school or motor vehicle transporting certain hazardous materials to stop, look and listen for oncoming trains at every public rail crossing before safely crossing the tracks. Local highway authorities may petition the PUCO to waive this requirement.

The Ohio Rail Hotline, at (866) 814-RAIL (7245), provides Ohioans with a toll-free resource for all railroad crossing questions. For more information regarding these crossings, access the Ohio railroad information system website at
