COLUMBUS, OHIO (May 4, 2017) – The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) will hold a local public hearing to give the public an opportunity to express their views regarding a request to exempt school buses and motor vehicles transporting certain hazardous materials from the requirement to stop at the railroad crossing located on State Route 93/Adamsville Road grade crossing in Muskingum County, used by the Zanesville & Western Scenic Railroad.
The local public hearing will be held on May 16, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Avondale Youth Center, 4155 Roseville Road, Zanesville, OH 43701.
Ohio law requires any bus, school or motor vehicle transporting certain hazardous materials to stop, look and listen for oncoming trains at every public rail crossing before safely crossing the tracks. Local highway authorities may petition the PUCO to waive this requirement.
The Ohio Rail Hotline, at (866) 814-RAIL (7245), provides Ohioans with a toll-free resource for all railroad crossing questions. For more information regarding these crossings, access the Ohio railroad information system website at http://gradecrossings.puco.ohio.gov/.
