PUCO Chairman Haque statement on nuclear deactivation notice
COLUMBUS, OHIO (March 29, 2018) – Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) Chairman Asim Z. Haque offered the following statement regarding FirstEnergy Solution’s notice to deactivate nuclear generation assets:
“Under Ohio law, the PUCO does not regulate power plants, including FirstEnergy Solutions’ nuclear plants. The company’s long-stated desire to sell many of its power plants, including its two nuclear plants, could begin with a filing of this kind. As the notice states that the plants will not be deactivated for a few years, it should reassure everyone that no major changes are imminent for either plant, and that the company’s goal of transferring the plants to another owner is still viable.”
