PUCO Chairman applauds signing of Senate Bill 315
COLUMBUS, OHIO (June 11, 2012) – Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) Chairman Todd A. Snitchler today issued the following statement regarding the signing of Senate Bill 315.
“I applaud Gov. John Kasich for signing Senate Bill 315 and join him in moving Ohio’s energy policy forward.
“SB 315 strengthens Ohio’s natural gas pipeline safety regulations, holding pipeline operators to high standards that protect Ohioans from where the gathering line meets the well pad all the way to customers’ homes and businesses. The new safety standards contained in the bill meet or exceed federal regulations.
“Taking advantage of energy that is currently going to waste just makes sense. Under SB 315, waste energy recovery systems can be counted as a renewable energy resource, an important step toward developing a cost-effective technology to help utilities meet Ohio’s renewable energy benchmarks.
“SB 315 allows for an accelerated Ohio Power Siting Board review process for certain types of utility facilities. This is a logical step that will make our siting process more efficient and effective, while maintaining oversight and keeping necessary safeguards in place.”
