Payphone Information

As of January 1, 2008, Payphone Service Providers (PSPs) "shall provide payphone service in accordance with 47 Code of Federal Regulation (C.F.R.) 64.1300 to 64.1340”. This code can be accessed from the PUCO website by clicking here.  This portion of the CFR addresses payphone compensation as well as the obligation for PSPs to ensure access to dial tone, emergency calls, and telecommunications relay service calls from all payphones at no charge to the caller.

The above stated information with regards to the provision of payphone service in Ohio is all that is required. There is no longer the need to file registration requests or quarterly reports with the PUCO.

The PUCO will continue to enforce the mandates of 47CFR 64.1330 which require payphones to provide access to dial tone, emergency calls, and telecommunications relay service calls for the hearing disabled at no charge to the caller. Further, complaints registered with this Commission if not investigated internally will be referred to the appropriate agency.
