Public Utilities Commission AMERITECH OHIO SECTION 271

AMERITECH OHIO Section 271

Ameritech Ohio´s Application Pursuant to Section 271 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 to Provide In-Region, InterLATA Services in Ohio

On February 8, 1996, the federal Telecommunications Act of 1996 was enacted to, among other things, encourage the development of competition for the benefit of consumers.  One of the provisions of the Act, Section 271, specifies the conditions under which a regional bell Operating company, such as Ameritech Ohio, may provide long distance toll service.  Section 271(c)(2)(B) of the Act sets forth a competitive checklist that enumerates the access and interconnection that Ameritech Ohio must provide or offer to other telecommunications carriers before the FCC may authorized the company to provide long distance toll.  The Act requires the FCC to consult with the state commissions regarding the companies' compliance with the competitive checklist.  Ameritech, in Case No. 00-942-TP-COI, has made such filing with the PUCO.
