The PUCO Motor Carrier Safety Rules Handbook is a guide to the PUCO and U.S. Department of Transportation regulations applicable to motor carriers operating in Ohio. It is not a substitute for the regulations, nor is it intended to explain the requirements in depth.
The current handbook replaces the For-Hire and Private Motor Carrier Safety Rules Handbooks. It was written to provide answers to questions that typically arise when a company is trying to determine if it is regulated and then briefly describes the rules that must be followed to stay in compliance. It also outlines PUCO registration forms, fees, and levels of insurance required to operate in Ohio. Copies of current PUCO carrier registration forms and applicable sections of the Ohio Revised Code and the Ohio Administrative Code are included along with PUCO contact phone numbers and web links.
